The recent judgment of our client’s unlawful detention case has been featured on Channel 4 News. You may watch the full segment below.
Our client’s case is the first legal challenge following the Brook House Inquiry, a report on the mistreatment of individuals detained at the Brook House Immigration Removal Centre. The High Court made the historic finding that the conditions of detention breached Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which prohibits inhumane and degrading treatment. The High Court also found that the Inquiry was admissible as evidence of the conditions in Brook House, despite the government’s attempts to prevent the judge from considering the report.
We are proud of the successful outcome of this case, allowing our client to receive over £200,000 in damages, reinforcing the importance of protecting human rights in immigration detention and holding the Home Office accountable.
